Is my plate healthy?

A balanced plate is mostly vegetables and fruit, with a portion of protein, some whole grains and little added sugar, salt and fried food. Rate My Plate gives your plate photo three scores, for nutrition, protein and healthy eating, plus tips to improve it. Real AI analysis is being connected, and demo results are clearly labelled.

How do I use Rate My Plate?

  • Upload a clear, well-lit photo of your plate.
  • Tap Rate my plate.
  • See three scores from 0 to 100: Nutrition, Protein and Healthy Eating.
  • Read the suggestions for small changes that would raise the scores.

What makes a healthy plate?

The World Health Organization's healthy diet guidance is a useful yardstick for any plate:

  • Eat at least 400 g, about five portions, of fruit and vegetables a day.
  • Keep free sugars below 10% of your daily energy intake.
  • Keep total fat below 30% of energy, and prefer unsaturated fats such as olive oil, nuts and fish.
  • Keep salt below 5 g a day, about one teaspoon.

In practice, fill about half the plate with vegetables, add a palm-sized portion of protein such as fish, chicken, eggs or beans, and choose whole grains for the rest.

What affects the score?

Like any photo-based estimate, the rating depends on what the camera can see. Hidden cooking oil, sauces and portion size are hard to judge from an image, and a mixed dish can hide what is inside. Good light and a top-down shot help.

Demo results and limitations

While real AI analysis is being connected, ratings come from a demo engine and carry a Demo result label, so they are not a real analysis of your photo. Scores are general guidance only and are not a dietary assessment. If you have a medical condition, follow the plan from your doctor or dietitian.
