Steve lives in Tampa Bay, Florida and owns a real estate investment company.
At his heaviest, Steve (6’2”) was 220 pounds.
In four months, Steve reached his goal and lost 35 pounds.
Steve kicked off his weight loss with David’s 10 pounds in 10 days challenge and has stuck with the principles of the challenge and 30 day continuity program to keep it off.
Steve’s Motivation to Lose the Weight
Like many adults, Steve noticed he had slowly gotten heavier over the years.
He attributes the weight gain to not modifying his diet as his metabolism changed.
At 220 pounds, Steve knew that he had to change the way his weight made him feel.
“I didn’t like the way it felt,” Steve says about why he had to make this change for his health.
“I didn’t like the way I looked, but most of all I don’t really want to be in hospitals.
I don’t want to see doctors.”
“I’ve seen a lot of hospitals and doctors as a result of a car accident when I was real young and with some other medical procedures and I just don’t like it.
I want to be able to cure myself, heal myself.
I mean if I break a leg or something I’m going to need a doctor, but other than that I don’t want to have to go to a doctor.
I knew that if I continued on the path that I was on that, my risk was increasing and not decreasing and I wanted to fix that.”
How Steve Lost the Weight
Steve explored a variety of weight loss and healthy eating strategies, including David’s 10 in 10 Program.
One of the key points that Steve recognized is that everyone has different needs.
All of these different strategies and programs give the opportunity to find things that work, whole or in part, to fit into that specific person’s life.
“For me long-term, this is a very important point I think for people,” Steve says.
“You have to look at your own self and say what’s sustainable?
I had to look at what I was doing and saying, can I do this long-term?”
For Steve, he found a company that simplified his dietary needs, namely with whole foods and leafy vegetable based products.
“I tried it and that was very simple for me,” Steve says about finding food products that worked for his weight loss because it was something he could do.
“Their products now represent two meals a day for me and I still make salads with organic vegetables and occasionally lean meat and so forth.
That part of it for me became sustainable and easy because it was simple.”
At social gatherings, Steve will enjoy whatever is being served, rather than deprive himself.
Controlling temptation is knowing that the next day it is back to his healthy eating.
The want of returning to healthy eating limits indulging to special events.
Making healthy eating the norm, keeps temptation at bay.
“When I’ve consistently followed the diet that I mostly follow now,” Steve says.
“I don’t have the cravings.
I’m not thinking about ordering a pizza or I’m not thinking about going out and ordering a steak.
By the way, I really have enjoyed those foods a lot in the past and still would enjoy now if I ate them, but I typically avoid it.
If I do participate in foods like that then I find I don’t necessarily feel that bad.”
Change in Mindset to Lose Weight
“Well, I would say there were a couple other things that I really focused on,” Steve explains about the mental adjustments he had to make.
“One was I spent time and you encouraged us to do this as well when we started the 10 in 10 Program, which was I spent time writing down what my goal was, but more importantly why was it my goal?
I still do that.”
Steve found writing down his goals and why he wanted to accomplish these goals.
The reasons he found were simple.
“I didn’t want to go to doctors and hospitals,” Steve says.
“Beyond that I knew that there were things that I was working on to achieve in my business that required a lot of energy.
I thought about it and I thought when I’m more successful hitting some of my business goals I want to have the health and energy to enjoy the results of that.
I also want to have the health and energy to interact with people that I’m working with on a professional/personal level in a very positive way.”
Steve has always been active, rollerblading, ice hockey, handball and he even was a marathon runner for 15 years.
Nowadays, he has a daily exercise routine with a trainer, Zna Trainer, and he follows her O2 Breakthrough Program.
“So 20 or 25 minutes a day, five days a week I’m on the phone with her,” Steve says.
“We do very specialized exercises by phone.
It’s probably one of the hardest things that I do and I’m working with somebody by phone, it’s crazy.
I do that and I walk and I run, but I mostly walk now.”
What Steve Does for Healthy Eating
“This is exactly what I do,” Steve says, going into detail about how he eats healthy.
“When I get up in the morning the first thing that I’m doing is drinking water.
I have bottled water that I have delivered to my house so I’m careful with the water that I drink mostly.
Then I typically will have an apple or a banana, either one of them, they’ll be organic along with some three to five specialized protein tablets that I take with that apple or banana.
Normally that’s all I feel like eating until later in the morning.
Somewhere between 10:00 and 12:00 I’ll make my first shake.
It’s a very high nutrient shake with a number of different ingredients in it.
And that’s when I also take my first multivitamin supplements which are also a very special formulation.
After that if I really get hungry I’ll eat an apple typically in the afternoon.”
In the evening, Steve makes organic popcorn with olive oil and Himalayan sea salt for a snack.
Dinner typically consists of a large salad.
“I have organic mixed greens,” Steve says.
“I often use I think you call it Kina.
I’ll add some Kina to the plate, organic mixed vegetables.
I will add organic celery, organic carrots, organic onion, organic tomatoes and then sometimes maybe half the time I’ll add organic black beans to the salad which I really like that.”
Sometimes Steve adds farm raised rotisserie chicken to his salads.
Even when he goes out to eat he’ll stick close to what he eats at home, a salad, vegetables and grilled chicken or salmon.
What Steve Would Have Done Differently
Looking back and thinking about what he would have done differently, Steve says, “I would have paid closer attention to the information that was already out there on the value of eating organic and paying very close attention to non GMO foods and learned at a lot earlier age the damage of industrialized food production.
There’s just no doubt in my mind.”
